New comic

I have started working a new comic, among all the other professional projects I have, just because I had to do it. I'm doing everything on it, especially writing. It's still rather early but I wanted to show a little teaser, the face of the main character, and a hint of the style, inking and coloring.

It should be a rather strong story, something that not everybody will like I think, a shout about some stuff I care about and some stuff I hate, all wrapped into a genre type plot with plenty of action and motorcycles. It will be like Mad Max dropped in 'Moby Dick' with music by Richard Wagner and Black Sabbath.

It won't be politically correct, it won't be nerdy, it won't be a tongue-in-cheek post-modern internet friendly meme with ninjas, it won't have superheroes crying or schoolgirls battling zombies, it won't be hyper-violent, it won't be funny, it won't have any licensed characters in it so it should be completely new and refreshing. Basically not the kind of comic you'll find at a local store.

Stay tuned for more.

Delays and New Style

I haven't posted in quite some time mostly because of being very busy with two projects, one coloring a soon due comic issue, and the other still very secret. But this last project also allowed me to rethink and refine my style and come up with a process I'm very comfortable with.

There are always moments in time when you have to reflect on your style in a more logical way, know where you are going and know where you should go. It was one of those moments and I wrestled quite a bit with things, went backward before I went forward, tried, retried, and retried again, until a hint of epiphany. The good thing is that I'm very happy with what I'm doing now, and it has given me a real hunger for drawing more, experimenting with inking, trying more angles, in a semi-feverish state.

This 'Oakley' illustration, although not a real ad, is an expression of that. The concept popped in my mind while I was browsing the new Oakley sunglasses in a shop. I'm quite happy with the result. It's getting somewhere.

Zuda

I did some art for a comic called 'Snipe Hunting' that is now in competition on Zuda: http://zudacomics.com/node/1787
It's a fun story. Please have a read and if you like it you can vote for it. Votes are very important, because there is a contract with a publisher for the winner (and more free pages to read for everybody). If you are not registered on Zuda, it only takes 2 seconds.
Read, enjoy, and tell your friends about it if you wish.

Wise words

If you want to succeed as an artist you have to accept rejection, you have to accept people will not like you, you have to accept to be ignored, you have to accept disappointment. Because all those things are part of an artist's life. When you create something you put yourself out there for anybody to pick on you. You have to take the bad, before you can take the good.
